Were you involved in any conflict during your naval career?
If I remember correctly, a young lad from Wigan who trained on the Ganges was a pall bearer at Lord Mountbatten's funeral.
Replied: 5th Nov 2023 at 17:33
When I was an apprentice, NCB, another lad, known to me, had done a year training on HMS Raleigh.
He sacked it off and joined the crew of HMC Parkside.
Very soon, he sacked that off too and joined HMP Risley as a PO.
It was HMS, to HMC (NCB), to HMP as a PO for him!

He thinks it’s funny.

This person has a very large ego.
He hates the royal family yet brags about serving in the police force and the navy. He has a meme ( which he does not know what a meme is ) of Hitler!
Back on topic.
November the 5th 1974 was bonfire night. And, still is in 2023

I think the pall bearer was one of the Murphy brothers from Scarisbrick St, he went to St Marys school.

Cheers

Yes, Martin was a fireman and died some years ago now - sadly, in a car accident. I won't go into any details.
I'm sure that Tony worked at Cherry Croft Garage for a time along with a friend of his.

‘They Also Serve Who Only Stand and Wait’
Replied: 6th Nov 2023 at 13:56
I always used to think that was a job description.
But, apparently, the last line from Milton's poem means:
even people who only stand and wait, because of a disability, serve God.
or, metaphorically:
each one of us has a place in this world and performs a function, regardless of our ability or disability

Yes, that's right, he was.
But! Mrs Murphy didn't have six sons.

Ianp I thought she had sorry. I knew her husband and he had throat cancer. Josie was a rally nice lady.
Replied: 7th Nov 2023 at 13:51
Jacqui, no need to apologise and, actually, sorry for my abrupt answer. I began to type and then had to suddenly leave, so quickly ended the sentence and posted it without including the rest.
Also, quite an easy mistake with the number, especially as their ages were quite wide. I think, there was an age difference of about twenty-two years between the eldest son (Mick) and the youngest. I'm quite sure that the youngest was a girl and the only daughter.
As far as I know, there were seven sons and, as mentioned, one daughter.
As you stated, she was a really nice lady. But, additionally, she was hard working, friendly, kind, thoughtful and persevered in times which weren't always easy.
